The County only has 11 miles of Motorway so there's a lot more out there to be discovered... and what better way than by bike. I am a mountain-bike coach / leader and have been taking out groups, arranging itineraries and support for several years now. This week's suggested route: Visiting A White Horse
Well Wiltshire is famous for many things and White Horses are well known world wide. You can start the ride from Devizes if you wish, or find a safe place to leave your car for the day out of town. Perhaps in the village of Poulshot or Worton. Start the ride by going through Poulshot village and heading west towards Bulkington. (If you have started the ride in Worton, continue past the turning to Poulshot in the direction of Bulkington). Turn left at the junction and continue through the village of Bulkington and on towards Keevil. Go through this village too. Take time to have a look around, Keevil is a beautiful old English village. At the cross-roads, turn left and follow the road to the end. At the T-junction, turn left for Steeple Ashton. This is an ideal place to stop for a rest and take some pictures. Note the olde Coaching Inn in the main village street and the old Lock-up on the village green. When you wish, leave the village and head for Edington. As you approach it, you will see the wonderful architecture of Edington Priory. It is possible to walk around quietly in the grounds. You now have 2 choices when you reach the B3098. If you turn right and continue for a few miles towards Pewsey, you will find Westbury White Horse nestling in the hillside. The more adventurous rides can take the small road up the hill and cycle along the top. When you have all of your photos, turn back on the route that you came as far as Coulston. This is a B road but it does attract some heavy traffic with narrow places. Take care. When you turn left for Coulston, follow the road down into the village and right through it. This is a good downhill run, but take care if you meet any other traffic. Stay on this road. You will pass through Coulston, past the edge of Erlestoke and through Marston and go across Norney Bridge. At the T-junction, turn left (unless you parked in Worton when you will turn right and you will be back at your car). The Poulshot people continue for 1 more mile and turn next right into Poulshot. There you are,a picturesque route. ENJOY!! I will put more routes on in the future. If you would like a personal guide for your ride... let me know.. those of you in the area I cycle with the 10-10 Club who meet every Sunday at 10.10am from the Wharf for rides up to 20 miles
